Chateau– A series by Bertil Vallien
In 1981 Bertil Vallien designed the iconic Château series. This year Château is turning 40, and we are celebrating with an anniversary collection that will only be available during this year. Selected glasses are launched in the color multi. A very special color that shifts in appearance depending on the light source, from blue to violet with hints of other tones. The colorful glass is a nice contrast and an addition to the items of the series in clear glass.
Château is created through an interplay of teamwork between our craftsmen at Kosta Glassworks. In the process from hot glass mass to finished glass a gatherer, blower, gaffer, leg gatherer and grinder take part. Each with extensive knowledge and vast experience in their field. The finished glass is a unique and qualified craft. The Château series is characterised by a twisted dome, reflecting light with its optics.
“I love to work with a theme. Glass offers possibilities that no other material can. It’s like the outpouring from a volcano where the glowing mass is rapidlytransformed into ice. The challenge is to capture the look and the light at justthe right moment to allow the glass to reveal its secrets.”
Bertil Vallien is Sweden’s most famous glass artist and designer. He has won numerous awards and is richly represented in museums throughout the world. Vallien works with a mystical, dreamlike and symbolic world of motifs and carries out what he himself describes as an investigation, in close collaboration with his colleagues, many of whom he has worked closely with for decades. Vallien is most famous as an expert sand caster. His solid boats
in a deep blue colour are part of modern glass history. He is also the creator of Château, one of Kosta Boda’s most popular glassware series
